YEAR 11 SKI CAMP – Mt Hotham
The Year 11 Ski Camp usually occurs in August or September. It is a four day camp that runs from Tuesday to Friday. This cost of the Camp includes daily full cooked breakfast, dinner & dessert, transport to and from the mountain by private school charter, lodge accommodation on the mountain, ski/snowboard lessons and ski/snowboard hire. For the past number of years, the accommodation has been be in one of the best lodges on the mountain, Kalyna Ski Lodge. Kalyna is located at the hub of the Mt Hotham ski fields and is very close to all Mt Hotham services and facilities.
All students start each day with a morning ski lesson in either downhill skiing or snowboarding which is tailored to their particular skill level (most students have never skied or snowboarded before and are therefore beginners). Students will have 3 ski or snowboard lessons in total on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the week. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience the alpine environment and learn a new winter sport that they may continue enjoying into adulthood. The purpose of group lessons is to teach students how to ski or snowboard safely and in a controlled manner.
All students will learn to ski or snowboard with a qualified Mt Hotham instructor and they will be supervised and assisted by school staff, who are highly competent skiers or snowboarders. The school ski camp staff have a very good knowledge of Mt Hotham. This knowledge is an important safety aspect in preventing students getting lost when skiing or snowboarding. To ensure safety, students will be allocated into small groups of no more than 8 per group with a staff member in charge of the group.
