Scholarship Criteria Thank you for your interest in applying for the Jake Herd Memorial Scholarship. To ensure fairness and transparency in our selection process, please carefully review and adhere to the following criteria:
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be a current Years 7-11 student enrolled at Gladstone Park Secondary College.
- Applicant must meet any additional eligibility requirements as outlined in the scholarship description.
- Application Requirements:
- Contact details (Full name, form group, school email)
- Personal essay (student must write about how they have demonstrated some of the values and character strengths that Jake exhibited). Maximum of 500 words.
- Endorsement from a minimum of 2 teachers (Teachers will review your essay. To agree to endorse, each teacher must print their name, sign, and date the bottom of your essay).
- Copy of your most recent school report (e.g. Semester 1 Report).
- [Optional] Supporting portfolio or work samples (if applicable to the scholarship).
- [Optional] Copies of awards or certificates (if applicable to the scholarship).
- [Optional] Letters of recommendation (maximum of 2, if applicable to the scholarship).
- Selection Criteria:
- Quality and clarity of personal essay.
- Academic achievement and potential.
- Quality of portfolio or work samples (if included in application).
- Relevant experiences or accomplishments (awards and certificates, if included in application).
- Letters of recommendation (if included in application).
- Submission Deadline:
- All application materials must be submitted by the end of Week 3 of Term 4 to the General Office.
- Submit as a hard copy (compiled as a bound document or in a display folder).
- Late submissions will not be considered.
- Please note that applications and any accompanying documents will not be returned.
- Notification:
- Scholarship recipient will be notified via letter and invited to attend the College end of year awards night.
- Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.
- Disbursement:
- One (1) financial scholarship to the value of $1,000 will be awarded annually (until the scholarship funds have been exhausted).
- Scholarship funds will be disbursed for the following academic year.
- Any unused portion of the scholarship will be forfeited and returned to the scholarship fund.
- Recipient will be required to provide proof of purchase (e.g. tax invoice) to the school business manager before funds are released in the form of a reimbursement.
