Technology

As Gladstone Park Secondary College Technology starts at year 7 and 8 as a core subject, and continues to year 9 and 10 as an elective.

In the Technology area, students plan and manage projects from conception to realisation. They apply design and systems thinking and design processes to investigate ideas, generate and refine ideas, plan and manage, produce and evaluate designed solutions. Through the practical application of technologies students gain a broad range of learning experiences, readily transferable to their home, life, leisure activities, the wider community, and to work.

Materials and Systems combine wood, plastic, metal and electronics to make useful practical models. As students move through Models are challenging as students enter higher year levels. Every model starts with a presentation of the previous students work, followed by diagrams, design options and finally simple instructions so that every student understand what needs to be done and achieved. The assortment of models is endless and the benefits for students having a hands on subject that also provides critical thinking and enjoyable rewarding fun.

Textiles is also a part of the Technology Learning Area, and this area of study aims to develop students design skills, and increase students’ knowledge and technical ability with fabrics and fibres. Students will become confident in sewing machine and overlocking techniques, pattern making and fashion illustration and design.

At VCE, the Technology subjects available to students are:

  • Product Design and Technology – Units 1-4
    • Students choose to focus on Textiles or Wood
