Year 9
At Year 9 Gladstone Park offers a blend of core and elective subjects designed to maximise student engagement while still preparing them for strong academic progress.

Year 9 Core Subjects

Students study the following core subjects for both semesters:

• English
• Maths
• Science
• Humanities
• Health & PE
• Italian/English Enhancement/Preparation for Work and Training

Year 10
Year 10 students have far more flexibility with their subject choices than previous years, and can choose with potential educational and career pathways in mind. All Year 10 students complete a portfolio interview in Term 3 from which we make educational recommendations.

Accelerated Studies
In line with the VCE timetable, all year 10 subjects run for five periods per week. This is designed to allow capable and organised students the possibility of studying some VCE subjects and/or VET programs. Undertaking a VCE unit in Year 10 has significant advantages such as:

• The opportunity to develop academic and study skills in readiness for VCE
• The possibility of completing a 3-4 sequence in Year 11 and therefore having six study scores to contribute to their ATAR at the end of Year 12.

Student preference is a high priority in deciding which courses finally run.  However, the following factors must also be taken into account:

• Staffing – both the total number of staff and the availability of staff with particular specialist qualifications
• Rooms – many programs require the use of specialist rooms, at least for some class time

Work experience
Work experience is an exciting part of the Year 10 curriculum. All Year 10s complete work experience in the second last week of Term 2.
