Mathematics aims to ensure that students are confident, creative users. Here at Gladstone Park Secondary College we focus on investigations, representing and interpreting situations and use digital technologies to help facilitate mathematical exploration. We aim to ensure that students are confident users and communicators of mathematics, where they are able to investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal and adult working lives. Mathematics is incredibly important in our lives and without realising it, we use mathematical concepts as well as the skills we learn from doing math problems every day.
Here at Gladstone Park Secondary College over 150 students enter the Australian Mathematics Competition each year. Many of our students attain great results. Our VCE Mathematics results have been proven to be quite good. We have many students achieving a study of 40+ each year.
Number, Measurement and geometry, statistics and probability are the three strands taught from Years 7 to Year 10. At the VCE level Gladstone Park Secondary College offers and runs all VCE Mathematics subjects across units 1 to 4. These include Further Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.
