English as a Second Language is offered for students who:
Note: Students coming from Singapore or India do not qualify.
In Years 7, 8 and 9, EAL students go to EAL for their English class. They do not study Italian and therefore receive three extra periods of English.
In Years 10, 11 and 12, EAL students have 5 periods.
In all EAL classes the curriculum mirrors the English curriculum. The extra periods in Years 7, 8 and 9 means that more time can be spent on the students’ English development.
EAL classes are smaller classes. Having fewer students in the class allows the teacher more time to spend with individual students. Also, we employ two multicultural aides who spend a lot of time in classes assisting students. In recent times our senior EAL students have been some of our best students, often obtaining very high ATAR scores.
